Starting Over is about the ways we change our lives, in big ways and small. The hopes, the dreams, the catalysts for change. The things we learn along the way and the places we find inspiration and motivation.
We start over all the time, all our lives. We start school and graduate from school. We transition from childhood to adulthood. We start new jobs and switch careers. We learn new things and new ways of thinking. We begin and end relationships. Some of these transitions feel natural, and some take huge leaps of faith and courage. They’re all a little scary or unsettling.
I’ve pumped gas for a living, and took the guts out of fish with a spoon. I’ve been a bookkeeper, a bank teller, and an editor. I was a single mom and an adult college student. I’ve lived in four corners of the country, escaped abusive parents and an even more abusive husband, and changed my way of thinking, dressing, and behaving. I’ve started my life over many times, in many ways, and I have stories to tell.
But not all of the stories I want to tell are mine. I also want to hear and share your stories.
Bankers become bakers, and teachers turn to tending bar. Most of us in this tumultuous time have at least considered new ways of making a living. We hear a lot about the great resignation, but little about what people are doing now. What they want to do. What they would do, if they had the time, resources and courage. I think we may be living through the great reinvention, and that’s exciting.
What do you want to do? Who do you want to be?
I want my stories to resonate and empower you to share your own. People want to share their stories. We want to feel appreciated and understood, and we want to know that it’s going to be okay. We need to know that we can change and start over, and even though it’s scary there are people rooting for us.
This newsletter will cover practical tips and tricks for ending old things and starting new ones, as well as general motivation and inspiration. I hope that you find things in it that will help you make your dreams come true, because in the end, that’s what starting over is really all about.
This is a super idea for a newsletter, and especially now. Society seeks to label and limit people. Don't let it. I wish you every success and, most importantly, happy writing.
